On-page SEO: a practical checklist for business websites
By INCODECRAFT · October 8, 2025 · 8 min read
Before external links or paid campaigns, your site must be intelligible to search engines and humans. On-page SEO covers exactly that: each page, optimized individually.
Per-page checklist
- Unique title tag — descriptive, under ~60 characters, with the main term
- Meta description — clear sentence that invites clicks, without keyword stuffing
- One H1 — aligned with page intent
- H2/H3 structure — logical, easy to scan
- Short, clear URL — /services/web-development, not /page?id=47
- Useful copy — answers real questions, not filler paragraphs
- Optimized images — size, modern format, descriptive alt text
- Internal links — connect related pages (services, blog, contact)
Technical, without unnecessary jargon
- Site loads fast on mobile
- HTTPS active across the domain
- No duplicate content on multiple URLs
- Sitemap and robots.txt configured correctly
- Structured data where appropriate (LocalBusiness, Organization)
What does not work long term
Hidden text, forced keyword repetition, thin pages with no value, or hundreds of AI articles with no real expertise. Google rewards usefulness and experience — not tricks.
Prioritization
Start with homepage, service pages, and contact — that is where traffic and conversion live. Then blog and case studies for informational terms. On-page SEO is incremental work, not a one-time “optimization” and done.
Frequently asked questions
At least at launch, yes. Good templates automate title and description, but content, heading structure, and internal links remain editorial decisions that make the difference.
