What pages a business website needs

By INCODECRAFT · November 28, 2024 · 6 min read

Many projects fail not from too few pages, but from too many empty ones. The right set answers client questions in the order they ask them — not the structure a generic template imagines.

Essential (4–5 pages)

  • Homepage — what you do, for whom, why you, clear call-to-action
  • Services — one or more pages, each with benefits and process
  • About — short story, team, values, differentiators
  • Contact — form, email, phone, location if relevant
  • Legal — privacy, terms (minimum for GDPR)

Recommended when you have material

  • Portfolio / projects — 3–6 examples with context, not just screenshots
  • Process — how you work, typical timeline, what the client should expect
  • FAQ — indicative pricing, timelines, technologies, remote collaboration
  • Blog — for long-term SEO and credibility

Optional / as you grow

  • Landing pages for specific campaigns
  • Careers page
  • Resources, guides, lead magnets
  • Client portal (authentication)

Practical rule

Launch with pages you can fill with real content. One complete Services page beats five pages with placeholder text. Expand when you have something useful to say — not because "big sites look like this."
